8 Hour Scaffold Refresher Course

Course Description

This training includes instruction on how to visually inspect suspended scaffold equipment, identify basic scaffold components, and execute safe assembly and disassembly of the equipment. To ensure maximum performance, students are required to participate in all class exercises, including various types of suspended scaffolding and rigging operations.

Furthermore, instructors will regularly assess students to determine if they are capable of applying rope knots, terminating wire rope, building a block and tackle system, and operating a scaffold hoist motor. Students will also be responsible for independently completing a multiple choice final exam.

Course Requirements to Receive Certification:

To receive certification, students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all the learning activities offered, including hands-on demonstrations and the final course exam. Students are also required to score a 70% or higher on the hands on and written exam to receive the 8 Hour Suspended Scaffold User Refresher ID card. This card is valid for 4 years.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Be able to recognize suspended scaffold systems and the corresponding important parts
  2. Be able to recognize the most common suspended scaffold hazards
  3. Describe how to avert exposure to suspended scaffold hazards
  4. Be able to recognize NYC Department of Buildings and OSHA regulations corresponding to scaffold design and use
  5. Exhibit proficient skills in how to properly inspect and apply personal fall arrest system used by suspended scaffold workers
  6. Administer the application of various knots and hitches to hoisting and fall protection situations
  7. Construct block and tackle for a fiber rope light duty scaffold
  8. Build the wire rope termination for hoisting rope on suspended scaffolds
