NYC Service Notice:
New Requirement: Site Safety training Information Signs at Construction Sites

Beginning October 15, 2019, general contractors must post worker safety information signs at construction sites where site safety training is required. 

The signs must: 

  • Contain specific information about required worker safety training, including all site safety training deadlines and the number of required training hours, and the information must be in all the languages used by workers to communicate at the construction site. 
  • The signs must also be clearly visible to workers and must be posted at the construction sites as follows: 
    • Sites with Construction Fencing: Must post a sign at each egress point on the inside of the construction fencing, including vehicle delivery fence gates and existing loading docks. 
    • Sites without Construction Fencing: Must post a sign at each egress point within the controlled access zone where construction is taking place and at each existing loading dock or location being used for construction delivery or access.

To comply with the new requirements, the posted sign must: 

  • Be 44 inches wide ad 30 inches high
  • Have letters at least 1 inch (25 mm) high 
  • Have white letters on a blue background
  • Be made of durable and weatherproof material such as vinyl, plastic or aluminum that is flame retardant

The NYC Buildings Department has created a template Template (click here to view) of the worker safety information sign that complies with this new requirement. The template is available for download in multiple languages on the NYC Building Department’s website. 

NOTE: 1 RCNY §3301-03 will be published in the City Record October 15, 2019 and will be effective immediately.

Upcoming Training Classes for SST Card

Seats are available for the following classes starting:

We have updated our training calendar for SST training.  Construction Superintendents, Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, and Competent Persons must have their SST Supervisors card by 12/1/19.  All 62 hours of training must be completed to obtain the SST Supervisors card. 

All workers at job sites which have a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Manager or a Site Safety Coordinator must have completed their 30 hours of SST training.  Workers must have an OSHA 30 card or a Limited SST Card by 12/1/19. All workers must have their OSHA 30 card, or an OSHA 10 card with 20 hours of additional training, or a 100 hours training program approved by the DOB.  By September 1, 2020 workers must complete an additional 10 hours of SST training.
