New York City Local Law 196 requires workers at job sites to have safety training.
In recognizing the cost burden of compliance, New York City Small Business Services is offering a way to pay for Site Safety training of employees of small NYC-based construction firms and eligible NYC Certified M/WBE’s. Participating companies can SAVE tens of thousands of dollars as the cost of training a single worker can be as much as $1,500.

The FREE GRANT terms are available here and below as follows:
- A business can only receive one reimbursement and cannot reapply once reimbursement has been received.
- SBS will only cover the direct cost of training.
- Training types include OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and any Site Safety Training.
- Meals, travel, and other miscellaneous costs are not eligible for reimbursement.
- Business are required to pay employees wages throughout the duration of training.
- All businesses will be required to submit information that demonstrates their eligibility and completion of training for a minimum reimbursement of 65%.
- If a business wishes to seek a higher reimbursement, they may choose to submit additional documentation to receive up to 100%.
Certified Site Safety is an “Authorized Training Provider” for NYC DOB and OSHA.
The costs of the Site Safety Training will only be reimbursed to you by SBS if you “Apply for the Construction Safety Training Grant“ and get it by providing key documents to SBS.
With respect to the grant paperwork, we will do our part under the program… and we will also do our best to assist you in doing yours to fully complete the SBS approval process.
To apply for training reimbursement, businesses must first meet the programs eligibility requirements as follows:
Certified M/WBE owned construction firm with 15 employees or fewer.
Small construction firms in New York City with 15 employees or fewer.
