The Respirable Crystalline Silica construction standard, 29 CFR § 1926.1153, becomes enforceable on September 23, 2017. OSHA estimates that the rule will save over 600 lives and prevent more than 900 new cases of silicosis each year, once its effects are fully realized.This training class, in combination with site specific employer details provided at onsite orientation meets the worker training requirement of the new standard. You can take the course online.

1.5-hour Worker Silica Fundamentals Training

Course Description

This 1.5 hour online class provides the worker with required information about respirable crystalline silica, including what it is, where it is found, the health hazards associated with it and how the worker can minimize his or her exposure. The class also describes the content of the standard including employer obligations, medical surveillance and training requirements under the standard. This class, when combined with employer/project specific site safety orientation regarding silica tasks being conducted onsite, meets the OSHA training requirement.

Prerequisites:

In order to receive a certificate/card for the course, students must:

  • Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered.
  • Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.
  • Attend all required hours of the course.
  • Actively participate during class activities and reviews.
  • Complete tests with a passing grade of 70%.
  • An Certification of Class Participation will be issued directly to participant within 30 days of successful completion of course.
